Judy Ann MacMillan not surprisingly, has a special feeling for the women of Jamaica. They are represented here in a striking series of portraits, ranging in age from the very young to the old. The images show the inner strength of Jamaican women as well as their beauty. The series opens with a portrait of Cedella Booker, mother of the reggae singer and Jamaican folk-hero, Bob Marley. It closes with a rare self-portrait of the artist herself at work.

However, two portraits of madwomen seen wandering in the streets of Kingston also serve as a reminder that life in Jamaica can be extremely hard. The artist was struck by the way each of these women seemed to mark out a special patch of territory for herself, a place where she could always be found.
